Art in Alberton

Discover the magic of art

Hi, my name is Sanchi Leibach and I love helping people to see things in a new light; to be creative and to be able to explore different ways of art making. Drawing is a teachable learnable skill. I can teach anyone, that is willing to learn, the skill of drawing. Drawing is the basis of painting and other forms of creating that is why I start with basic drawing.

I have over 30 years of teaching experience from teaching at high schools, a FET college, VUT as well as private art classes. I started Art in Alberton from my home-based studio in August 2007.

Art in Alberton offers individual art classes as well as small group art classes. The art classes are for beginners as well as more advanced artists.

Art in Alberton is a solvent
free studio

To be kinder to our health and to be kinder to the environment, we are a solvent free studio. There are solvent free alternatives for all the oil painters. I sell a bio friendly South African product that is solvent free.

I also offer online art/creative mentoring. Creating art can me a very lonely journey, if you want support and guidance, I can offer assistance with that. The online platform means you can be anywhere in the world.  With mentoring I will guide you with
feedback if you are feeling stuck. If you want to work more productively and need to navigate working towards a goal, I’ll help you with that. Mentoring does not mean that I’m teaching you skills, there are many online courses for that. My aim is to help artists flourish and grow.

My aim for the art classes is to:

  • Provide a relaxed and enjoyable time to learn and experience new things.
  • Create an environment that is away from your everyday stress and give
you space to relax and unwind.
  • Explore new avenues in art making and creativity.
  • Have fun and make beautiful things.
  • Guide all students to fulfil their highest potential.

I offer various themes and mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking and basic sculpture.

Reviews

I love coming to art class because I get to challenge myself and share a creative space with wonderful, inspiring women. There’s coffee and chit chat and lots of colour! There’s no right or wrong or pressure to create something perfect – you work at your own pace and you’re guided and encouraged from start to finish.

Sanchi’s art classes give me the freedom to fly and grow. It’s the place where you
discover yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, and work on both. I’ve learnt how to start at the beginning, and paint as if there’s no tomorrow… And you’re among your peers, people with heart and soul… And great creativity… And the boundaries you have created for yourself can be shattered….

Online mentoring
and support

I also offer online art/creative mentoring. Creating art can me a very lonely journey, if you want support and guidance, I can offer assistance with that. The online platform means you can be anywhere in the world. With mentoring I will guide you with feedback if you are feeling stuck. Online art/creative mentoring can be done in one 30 minute session via zoom or a video call to answer your questions and give guidance.

Or you can do it in short WhatsApp messages that you send me photos of your artwork or ask for guidance. I will answer these in a reasonable amount of time and the interactions will then add up to 30 minutes over a period of time; up to a year.

Online Creative Mentoring R 400/ 30 minutes using Zoom or cumulatively making up 30 minutes via WhatsApp.

I love teaching beginners. I start by teaching basic drawing. This entails how to use your right brain and training your eye to see. Basic drawing takes between 9 – 12 hours to complete. Thereafter you can choose which medium and theme you want to learn.

Yes, I will give feedback on your work and help unlock your creative spirit. Sometimes we just need to have a fresh approach to get unstuck.

You will need the following materials:

I will give you advice about the quality and price of other art materials as you progress to new materials.

I start kids around 12 years old. I will do an assessment test to see if they are ready to learn the information and how I teach. The assessment test cost R50, all materials are provided. My classes are small, and adults and kids are combined.
